The health checkup says that the uric acid level is high. If the uric acid level is high, is it gout?

Asymptomatic hyperuricemia, which is asymptomatic and high in uric acid, develops in about 1 in 10 people, but only 1.5 in 10 develop symptoms. So, most of them go without problems, but in some cases, the asymptomatic period lasts for several years or longer, and eventually symptoms such as gouty arthritis or kidney stones appear.

In general, the higher the uric acid level, the higher the chance of symptoms, and even if there are no symptoms, the uric acid level too high (12 mg/dL) adversely affects kidney function. In most cases, hyperuricemia does not cause trouble, so gouty arthritis should be confirmed by checking for uric acid crystals in the joint fluid, not by a blood test. No medication is needed unless you have symptoms and your uric acid levels are very high.

However, high uric acid levels can be a sign of medical diseases such as kidney failure, and high uric acid levels increase the risk of developing adult diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes, so it is necessary to evaluate whether there are accompanying diseases.
